» Paintings of the Room 4

Dedicated to 14th century Florentine painting. On the long left wall are shown fragments of a polyptych with Saints, Martyrs and Virgins, by the Lombard Giovanni da Milano, of northern formation, which he reveals in the soft chiaroscuro rendered with acute realism, but at the same time, aware of the art of Giotto. This is followed by the grandiose painting by Andrea Orcagna, representing St. Matthew. On the following wall, the Madonna and Saints, polyptych of Bernardo Daddi. On the right wall, Deposition, attributed to Giottino, once thought to be by Maso di Bianco, very close (perhaps the greatest) follower of Giotto.

Giottino is one of the most remarkable Florentine painters of the 14th century, sensitive to northern color and to soft chiaroscuro. Next, Madonna and Child with Angels by Florentine artist Taddeo Gaddi, one of the most faithful followers of Giotto. Also shown are works by Nardo di Cione, Bernardo Daddi, Jacopo del Casentino and others.
