» Paintings of the Room 23

Dedicated to Antonio Allegri called il Correggio, an artist who unites echoes of Montegna to a remarkable sensitivity to Leonardo's "sfumato" (shading). Among his works shown in this room we remember the famous Virgin adoring the Child. On the opposite wall, works by Flemish painters Bernaert van Orley, Quentin Massys, and Joos van Cleve. On the succesive walls, paintings by Leonardo's followers, among whom, Luini, Antonio Bazzi called il Sodoma, and an old copy of Madonna and Child, from an original by Leonardo, preserved at the Louvre.

By Andrea Mantegna, among the most representative painters in the artistic ambient of Northern Italy, is the small but grandly conceived Madonna of the Caves.
